Is Jake Normal?

Tyler's mom here: I have a question regarding Jake's possesive behavior around Sophie. Where they used to share a plate of stinky gooness, now I have to separate them because Jake starts to growl when Sophie comes near what he's eating. A few minutes ago, Jake dragged over a wand toy that has pieces of fur and bells tied to the wand. When I started to shake the toy in front of both him and Sophie once again he starts growling. She backed off and left him alone. He seams to this more with food and toys that are made with real animal parts. Is this normal behavior? Or do I have an overly aggressive boy here?

Sounds like normal pecking order stuff to me! I used to growl at Latte when he was around my stinky goodness. I think as you get older you just have to sort all of that stuff out.

Yep, it doesn't sound too serious to me either. I never, ever growl. But when I was a kitten and I had an especially fun toy, I would growl if someone tried to take it away from me. I don't do that any more.

This might be just a kittenish phase he'll outgrow, but don't let him get too used to being agressive. If necessary, take the toy away from him to show that YOU'RE the boss there, not him. Give Sophie equal playing time. Feeding them on separate bowls may become necessary to avoid fighting.

Has he been neutered yet? That helps with male agressiveness.

Heh, sounds kinda like Brainball and Marilyn sometimes! They don't fight but once in a while they get kinda grumpy with each othur and yeah, it's peckin' order stuffies. Brainball is the big Alpha cat around here, but she isn't the oldest cat; Marilyn is. So I think they get their whiskurs crossed sometimes! And once in a while Brainball growls at Marilyn if she thinks Marilyn's doin' somethin' to challenge her fur the Alpha pozzishun.

yep, we agree wif Kaze, sounds like they is doing the "top cat dance" as mommy calls it. She saided trixie, norton and the one who came before usded to do this all the time - and then snuggle wif each other.

I think that's pretty normal. Ninna and Silky both get mad at each other when mom's petting them (jealousy) and they shriek and fur flies and then everything calms down.

I think that is normal, sometimes just need to do the "top cat dance", just careful not to have damage.
Seperate is good action, maybe they need to get with each other's exist.

Mommy will be a little bit hard at these timing.

It sound normal to us. Karl and I adore each other and really love each other and are best friends.
But sometimes when he has caught a mouse he growls at me! And sometimes when we wrestle I stop and hiss at him. That's just how we cats are!
Thank you for visiting! We NEVER go without our glasses, ever! Almost. There is one picture of Karl in an earlier Mancat Monday without his glasses. And I think of showing my eyes to my Mancat Monte once in the future because they are the prettiest eyes in the world...

Yup. Normal behavior. We have hissy fits around here all the time. Although we have LOTS of food bowls, so there isn't any growling over those. And we each tend to like different foods, so when it comes time for stinky goodness and tuna, we each get our own bowl of whichever type we like. We are spoiled. But that's the way cats are supposed to be. We domesticated humans, not the other way around. Remember that and you will be fine.
